In 2003, Tashia Johnson-St.Clair had a dream where she saw from start to finish the process for making gourmet flavored chocolate covered popcorn. Tashia decided to try and duplicate the process that she saw in her dream. The only flavoring she had at the time was Pralines & Cream. After several attempts, she finally got the popcorn to look exactly how she envisioned it. She took some to a Vacation Bible School pitch-in at her church and came back with an empty bowl. She knew she was onto something great!

The next flavor tested was Blueberry Cheesecake. She thought, “ Why not have the blueberry blue and the cheesecake white?” She tried it and it turned out to be a hit!

Her then husband knew that she was onto something big. He took the popcorn to work and collected orders. His co-workers gave him the nickname “Popcorn Man”. The popcorn went over so well, that samples were literally stolen from other workers’ tool boxes!

A year later, Tashia acquired a commercial kitchen to produce Sweet Poppin’s™. Since the inception of Sweet Poppin’s™, over 30 popcorn flavors and/or combinations have been created. New flavor combinations are being created every month. Gourmet flavored chocolate covered popcorn has become her passion.

Tashia gives all credit to God. He gave her the vision and He will see her through.

The History of the Grinder...

The term “Grinder” can be traced back to the East Coast where, during WWI, Italian immigrants set up sandwich shops close to the shipyards. Their freshly baked Italian rolls were filled with generous amounts of meats and cheeses and were then baked and garnished with lettuce and tomato.

These super-sized sandwiches were a favorite of the hard working men who ground rivets off the metal warships. The friendly shop owners referred to the men as grinders, and the ever popular sandwiches also came to be known as “Grinders”.

Mancinos Grinders and Pizza Shops were established in the late 1930's by Samuel Mancino Sr., near St. Clair Shores, Michigan. The original recipes and good customer relations were the hallmark of Sam Manicnos success, and those concepts are still prevalent today in all Mancino's Shops.

Now in its second year, the KOKOMO-CON, Oct 8th, in KOKOMO INDIANA will feature comics and pop culture items as well as guests (comic creators and other talented individuals).

Doors Open for the Con at 10 am. However, advance ticket holders get into the show at 9:30 am. The comic convention closes at 6 pm, and the game room and film room will remain open until 11:45 pm.

About Guest of Honor Art Baltazar

Art Baltazar Comic book artist and writer who currently works for DC comics. Baltazar started making comic books with his self-published comic book, The Cray-Baby Adventures. Since then, he created other comics such as Gyro-Man, Captain Camel & the Space Chicken, Jimmy Dydo, Lunar Lizard, Meteor Miteand Patrick the Wolf Boy.

Baltazar has also had a brief tenure with Warner Bros. and had a monthly comic strip in Disney Adventures Magazine called GORILLA GORILLA! Baltazar has recently completed the “Big Amoeba” graphic novel for Platinum Studios.

The staff of the Kokomo Perspective stopped in here in one day when one of our other favorite lunch spots, Jay's, was packed to the brim.

We didn't know what to expect at first, but the food was amazing. As someone who has been to Mexico I can say this food is probably as close to what you would eat for lunch if you were walking around Mexico than any other Mexican restaurant in Kokomo.

Sycamore Sports Pool

Sycamore Sports pool outdoor pool is open Memorial Day weekend (May 28) through Labor Day weekend (September 5). Lifeguards are on duty at all time. The pool is surrounded by concrete decking with both lounge and chair seating available. Shaded areas are available on deck for those sensitive to the sun.

The main pool depth starts at 3' and gradually deepens toward the diving well (12'). There is both a high dive and low dive board for competent swimmers. In addition there is a toddler wading pool nearby. Certified lifeguards are on duty during all open hours (11 AM - 7 PM daily).

Daily admission is $5 for youths ages 5-15 and seniors over the age of 55. Adults ages 15-54 pay $6 daily.

Private, after hour pool parties are available Sunday - Friday from 7 PM - 10 PM by reservation. A $50 deposit is required to reserve your party date. The cost of a party for up to 50 swimmers is $175. Additional fees apply for larger groups.

We offer a concession stand to those wishing to purchase snacks that may be eaten in the snack area. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments, although they must remain in the snack area.

Please check the specials page to see if there are any shoots of that type. We will also shoot at a hotel or bed and breakfast upon request. The hotel room cost is to be paid by the client. You can also request we shoot at your home or at a friend's house. HOW LONG DOES THE SHOOT LAST? Your shoot will last as long as the package that you pick states, sometimes longer. Sometimes it does not take the full time, sometimes it may take a little longer. We are somewhat flexible when it comes to the shooting time, and usually keep shooting until we feel we have what we need. If you get your makeup done, please be sure to get it done in advance of your shoot time.

DO YOU DO MY MAKEUP? Our package prices do not usually include makeup or hair, unless otherwise stated. Please arrive with your hair and makeup the way you want it done for your shoot. There are local salons who will do your hair and makeup for a flat rate.
